GOVERNANCE

Ipswich Girls' Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for ensuring the good governance of the School and directly accountable to the Queensland Minister for Education. The day-to-day operations and leadership of the School is delegated to the Principal and Executive Management team.


Ipswich Girls' Grammar School as a statutory body was originally formed under the Grammar Schools Act 1975, until the Grammar School Act 2016 came into effect, replacing the earlier legislation with modern provisions to meet the contemporary needs of grammar schools. The Act sets out the establishment and regulation of the School, including the constitution, powers, and functions of the Board of Trustees.

SCHOOL BOARD OF TRUSTEES 2026 ELECTION NOTIFICATION

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and Ipswich Junior Grammar School has a long proud history and tradition of providing excellence in education for the community we serve. The Notice below is to advise the School community of the election process for Board positions for the School which will be available in 2026.

Eligible persons (Subscribers) will be invited to consider nomination for election and to participate in the election ballot.

Meet the Board

Ms Kathryn Jones
Chair

CA, BBus(Accy)

Kathryn Jones is a senior digital infrastructure and telecommunications executive with over 20 years’ experience leading large scale transformation, capital programs, and complex stakeholder environments across Australia’s digital infrastructure sector. She is currently Executive National Infrastructure Projects at Telstra InfraCo, where she oversees the delivery of multi billion dollar fibre and infrastructure programs of national significance.

Kathryn brings deep expertise in strategy, commercial governance, risk management, and major project delivery, with a strong track record of negotiating and executing long term government and enterprise partnerships. She has held multiple executive leadership roles across Telstra, including responsibility for P&L management, asset optimisation, and enterprise customer portfolios exceeding $1 billion in annual revenue. Kathryn is also a member of Telstra’s Executive Leadership Team and is recognised for her strong governance mindset, collaborative leadership style, and commitment to inclusive, high performing organisations.

A Chartered Accountant, Kathryn has served as a Trustee of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School since September 2024 and was appointed Chair of the Board in March 2025. She is an Old Girl of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School, where she served as a Prefect and Deputy Head Girl in 1989.

Ms Sophie McCleary
Deputy Chair

LLB (Hons), BCom(Accy), GDLP and GAICD

Sophie is an experienced non executive director with a strong record of governance leadership across the not for profit sector, supported by formal qualifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and The University of Queensland. She is also an accomplished commercial and corporate lawyer with significant experience across government, complex commercial contracting, corporate governance, technology, major projects and regulatory matters.

Sophie is a proud Old Girl (2004-2015) of the School, and is passionate about paying forward the limitless opportunities that her education at the School has given her. She currently also lives in Ipswich and is deeply committed to the School's role in the wider Ipswich community. Sophie is recognised for her contemporary governance perspective, strategic leadership and ability to navigate complex issues with clarity, integrity and a strong commitment to the School's values and vision.  

Ms Madeleine McEniery

GDLP, LLB, BBus (HRM)

Madeleine McEniery is an experienced Brisbane based litigation lawyer practising in complex commercial and dispute resolution matters. Madeleine advises corporations and individuals on their rights, risk and regulatory issues across all state and federal jurisdictions. 

Madeleine brings to the Board an ability to exercise judgment in decision making and experience at the negotiating table.

Madeleine is passionate about strategic leadership and the strategic role the Board plays in contributing to and supporting young people and girls through education and opportunity. Madeleine is a proud Old Girl having attended the Junior and Senior schools and was one of the Head Girls in 2013. During her time at the School Madeleine was a keen sportswoman and represented the School at a state and national level. Madeleine was appointed as a Trustee in September 2024.

Ms Bronwyn Rees

BSc (Hon), MClinPsych, MAPS, FCCLP

Bronwyn is a Clinical Psychologist with 30years experience working in clinical, operational and governance positions in both the private and public health sectors. With a Master of Clinical Psychology from the University of Queensland, Bronwyn is a leader and advanced clinician within paediatric services for Queensland Health in West Moreton. She has worked in regional and rural locations as well as the Queensland Children’s Hospital and Mater Health Services. She was a member of the Queensland Children’s Hospital master planning team.

Bronwyn is passionate about effective governance with the goal of providing excellent and effective services for children and young people. Bronwyn works with Universities across the country in educating health professionals. She is the author of treatment manuals for the management of paediatric ADHD and was part of a select team to create state-wide guidelines for the management of paediatric diabetes. Bronwyn is a published researcher and continues to engage in research in a range of areas including child maltreatment, trauma-informed education and school based mental health programs.

Drawing on her three decades of clinical, operational and governance experience, Bronwyn has extensive knowledge of the strategic positioning of services to meet the emotional, social, cognitive, and developmental needs of children and adolescents. This includes the role quality education plays in the lives of children and adolescents and the broader impact that quality and innovative education has on a community.

Bronwyn has served as a Trustee of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School since 2022. Bronwyn is a proud Old Girl of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.
