SCHOLARSHIPS

We offer scholarships to students from Year 7 entry to foster the development of young women who show exceptional promise and could greatly benefit from the School's comprehensive educational approach. The school's Scholarship Program is aimed at acknowledging and promoting students who excel and participate actively in co-curricular activities such as the Arts and Sports. 

Applications for the 2027 school year are now open and will close on Friday 30 January 2026.  

Only students applying for a Leadership or Academic scholarship must sit the ACER Scholarship Test.

Scholarships are open to Australian Residents only.


Academic Scholarship

Academic Scholarships reward and recognise new and continuing students entering Years 7 to 12 at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School who demonstrate academic excellence.

Selection is based on results of a scholarship examination, recent academic reports, a record of excellent behaviour and an interview if necessary (shortlisted candidates only).

Students are expected to participate actively in all aspects of a well-rounded education and support others at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.


  • Academic achievement.
  • Willingness to contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities of the School, that is, participate in at least two of the following: sport, arts, service or cultural activities each year.
  • Ability to comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, behaviour, uniforms, and use of technology.

  • Submit an online Scholarship application – applications for the 2027 intake are now open and will close on Friday 30 January 2026.
  • Academic scholarship applicants for the 2027 school year must sit the ACER Scholarship Test at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School on Saturday 28 February 2026. Register here: https://scholarships.acer.org/intro/2675
  • For applicants residing outside the Brisbane and Ipswich metropolitan areas, it may be possible to sit the scholarship test at their nearest participating cooperative school, at an ACER Test Centre or at a non-ACER Test Centre. For a list of participating schools please visit the ACER website.
  • All applicants are required to prepare a portfolio.

  • A list of achievements, positions or roles they have held at school (such as Class Captain, Debating team, Excellence awards).
  • Demonstration of participation in a range of aspects of school life, such as the Arts, Sports, or Service activities.
  • A supporting statement (approximately 200 words) outlining their capacity to contribute to the School, addressing the following questions:
    • What does attending Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School mean to you? Some suggestions might be to tell us about your goals, ambitions, family experiences, friends and/or community and why these contribute to your desire to attend our School.
    • What is a hobby or activity you particularly like being involved in? Tell us about how you got involved, what contributions you make, and why you find it worthwhile or enjoyable. What do you enjoy about these things? How long have you been involved in it/them?
    • What are three things that you have done or experienced that you are most proud of?
  • A copy of the student's School reports for the last two years (external applicants only).
  • A copy of the student’s most recent NAPLAN results (external applicants only).
    • Please note, if the student has already submitted an enrolment application, or is a current student of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School, you are not required to submit the last two years of School reports, or NAPLAN results. 

Portfolios must be submitted via the online Scholarship Application Form.

All Academic Scholarship applicants must sit the scholarship examination at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School. (Rural and interstate applicants may be able to sit the examination remotely under strict supervision, for an additional fee).

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to attend an interview.

  • Scholarships offered to students are tenable until the end of Year 12, subject to annual review. This means that if the conditions of the scholarship continue to be met, the student retains the scholarship for the tenure. 
  • The Scholarship is granted with the expectation that the student will complete Year 12 at the School. Should this not occur, and the student continues to reside locally, then it is at the discretion of the School to require that the value equivalent to part or all of the Scholarship fee reductions be payable to the School.
  • Scholarships are not means tested.
  • By accepting the Scholarship award, students and parents or legal guardians, consent to the use of the scholarship recipient’s name, image and profile to be used for the purposes of marketing and promotion of the School’s scholarship program. This may include for the purposes of publication in School newsletters, external newspapers, magazines and websites (including the School’s website) and social media. Such publications will go beyond the School community and may extend for a period of time beyond the duration of the scholarship recipient’s education at the School.

If successful, in order to maintain the Scholarship, the student must: 

  • Maintain a consistently high level of academic performance (reviewed each semester).
  • Contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities of the School (reviewed annually).
  • Exhibit behaviour of the highest calibre.
  • Comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, uniform, and use of technology (reviewed each semester).
  • Demonstrate commitment to the values of the School.
  • Maintain consistent attendance of 90% or higher.
  • Scholars are expected to demonstrate leadership and be role models of the School and within the wider community.

The student’s family must: 

  • Pay the balance of any account within four weeks of each term’s commencement. 
  • Provide in writing to the Board of Trustees an explanation about any delay in settling an account and a request to arrange alternative payment options. 
  • Be positive role-models and actively involved within the School community. 
  • Parents of scholarship recipients are encouraged to actively support the School’s P&F Association and volunteer to assist in events and activities when possible. 

Each scholarship is granted on the understanding that the Board of Trustees has the right to withdraw the scholarship if the aforementioned conditions are not met. Scholarships are contingent on the full disclosure of all information pertinent to a student’s education. Withholding relevant information may result in a scholarship being withdrawn. Potential withdrawal of a scholarship will be discussed with the family prior to the end of a school term. IGGS has excellent pastoral care, counselling, learning support resources and programs to help all students maintain high personal and performance standards. Withdrawal of a scholarship is not executed without due consideration of any mitigating circumstances should any of the above conditions provide cause for concern. 

The details of scholarship offers are confidential and must not be disclosed to third parties. The School will not negotiate the conditions or amount of a scholarship once a decision has been made.

Leadership Scholarship

Leadership scholarships reward and recognise new and continuing students entering Years 7 to 12 at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School who have held formal leadership roles or demonstrated significant leadership through their actions and/or community service.

Selection is based on results of a scholarship examination, recent academic reports, a record of excellent behaviour and an interview if necessary (shortlisted candidates only).

Students are expected to participate actively in all aspects of a well-rounded education and support others at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.

  • Demonstration of leadership qualities through formal Leadership role/s eg School Captain, House Captain, or significant leadership within the wider community.
  • Willingness to contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities of the School, that is, participate in at least two of the following: sport, arts, service or cultural activities each year.
  • Ability to comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, behaviour, uniforms, and use of technology.

Defence Force Family Scholarship

Defence Force Family Scholarships are offered to new and continuing students entering Years 7 to 12 who are members of current, fulltime serving Defence Force families in recognition of the significant contribution and sacrifice the families make whilst serving our nation.

Selection is based on the strength of the applicant’s portfolio and a possible interview.

Students are expected to participate actively in all aspects of a well-rounded education and support others at Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School.

  • Academic achievement.
  • Willingness to contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities of the School, that is, participate in at least two of the following: sport, arts, service or cultural activities each year.
  • Ability to comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, behaviour, uniforms, and use of technology. 
  • Parent/guardian currently serving as a fulltime employee in the Australian Defence Force.

  • Submit an online Scholarship application – applications for the 2027 intake are now open and will close on Friday 30 January 2026.
  • All applicants are required to prepare a portfolio.

For Defence Scholarships, the applicant’s portfolio should include the following:

  • The student’s name, current school and scholarship categories applying for.
  • A list of achievements, positions or roles they have held at school (such as Class Captain, Debating team, Excellence awards).

Rural Scholarships

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School provides educational opportunities for young women based in rural locations to be educated at the School from Years 7 to 12.

Rural Scholarships are open to young women who demonstrate either academic, sporting or arts ability, or leadership potential. 

What the scholarship covers:

  • The Scholarship partly covers tuition and boarding fees.
  • The Scholarship is not applied to fees incurred for individual tuition for example Speech and Drama, Tennis, Instrumental Music or Singing which may be taken in addition to the established curriculum subjects.

To be considered a regionally based student, the student must reside in a regional or remote area as defined by the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) with a postcode of 4350 or above (for Queensland based students) - https://www.qtac.edu.au/scholarships/eligibility


To be eligible for a Rural Scholarship, students must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Intention to complete their schooling through to Year 12 at IGGS.
  • Will be a full-time boarder at IGGS.
  • Demonstration of commitment to school life through attendance, application, involvement, and exemplary behaviour.
  • Maintain a consistent level of academic performance (reviewed each semester).
  • Demonstration of participation in a range of aspects of school life, such as the Arts, Sports, or Service activities.
  • Comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, behaviour, uniforms, and use of technology (reviewed each semester).
  • Will have the support of the family or guardian of the enrolment and the scholarship.

  • Submit an online Scholarship application – applications for the 2027 intake are now open and will close on Friday 30 January 2026.

Special Ability Scholarship - Performing Arts

Applications for Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School’s Special Ability Scholarships – Performing Arts are open to students entering Years 7 to 12 who demonstrate excellence in Performing Arts through exemplary dedication and commitment to the School’s curricular and co-curricular Arts program.

  • Achievements, ability and potential to excel in the Performing Arts, as demonstrated by information, certificates and examiner reports provided in the portfolio.
  • Musical and/or technical abilities, presentation and overall presentation at audition.
  • Demonstrated talent and potential based on past achievements and performances.
  • For vocalists – completion of Grade 3 AMEB (Years 7 to 10 students), completion of Grade 4 AMEB (Years 11 and 12 students), or equivalent.
  • For instrumentalists – completion of Grade 4 AMEB (Years 7 to 10 students) and completion of Grade 7
  • AMEB (Years 11 and 12 students), or equivalent.
  • For dance – minimum Grade 5 RAD or Grade 5 Commdance, and show evidence of working towards at least Grade 6 RAD or Grade 6 Commdance (Years 7 to 9 students), and a minimum of Intermediate Foundation in RAD or Sub-Elementary in Commdance (Years 10 to 12 students).
  • For drama - minimum of AMEB Grade 2 or equivalent (Years 7 to 9 students), and a minimum of AMEB Grade 5 or equivalent (Years 10 to 12 students).
  • Academic achievement as noted in past school reports.
  • High level of enthusiasm in and commitment to the IGGS Curricular and Co-Curricular Performing Arts program.
  • Participation in Performing Arts related activities and external activities which develop the applicant’s creative ability.
  • Ability to comply with the School’s guidelines for appropriate behaviour, attitude, uniform and use of technology.

For Special Ability Scholarships – Performing Arts, the applicant’s portfolio should include the following:

  • The student’s name, current school and scholarship categories applying for.
  • Achievements in Music and/or Dance and current repertoire being studied.
  • For musicians – the instrument they wish to be considered upon for the scholarship position.
  • Certificate and examiner reports for AMEB, ABRSM or Trinity College Music examinations, RAD or Commdance examiner reports, AMEB Drama examiner reports 
  • Performances and achievements in concerts, musical ensembles/choirs, eisteddfods and/or other relevant recognised competitions.
  • Membership of youth orchestras, instrumental and vocal ensembles, performance troupes, State/ National Ensemble Programs, internships and work experience.
  • At least one reference from a Performing Arts/Music teacher who attests to the student’s
  • achievements and development of their skills (external applicants only).
  • A supporting statement (approximately 200 words) outlining their capacity to contribute to the School, addressing the following questions:
    • What does attending Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School mean to you? You can tell us about your goals, family, friends and/or community and why these are important.
    • What kind of things do you like doing? You could tell us about your hobbies (such as art or music) or any groups you’re a part of (like sports clubs, charity groups or community organisations). How long have you been involved in it/them?

Portfolios must be submitted by the online Scholarship Application Form.

  • Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview and an audition on a set date in 2026 with the Head of The Arts and the Director of Co-Curricular Arts. Please note, all auditions will be recorded for scholarship review purposes only. At least one parent/guardian is requested to be present for the interview component. Parents/guardians will be asked to leave the room for the audition process.

The audition/interview will comprise of:

  • A performance of two instrumental/vocal works/dance or drama performances of a contrasting nature.
  • For instrumental/vocal students who audition – performance of a selection of scales and technical work from the student’s current equivalent AMEB grade level and an aural test.
  • Interview with student and parent/guardian.

  • Scholarships offered to students are tenable until the end of Year 12, subject to annual review. This means that if the conditions of the scholarship continue to be met, the student retains the scholarship for the tenure.
  • The Scholarship is granted with the expectation that the student will complete Year 12 at the School. Should this not occur and the student continues to reside locally, then it is at the discretion of the School to require that the value equivalent to part or all of the Scholarship fee reductions be payable to the School.
  • Scholarships are not means tested.
  • By accepting the Scholarship award, students and parents or legal guardians, consent to the use of the scholarship recipient’s name, image and profile to be used for the purposes of marketing and promotion of the School’s scholarship program. This may include for the purposes of publication in School newsletters, external newspapers, magazines and websites (including the School’s website) and social media. Such publications will go beyond the School community and may extend for a period of time beyond the duration of the scholarship recipient’s education at the School.

If successful, in order to maintain the Scholarship, the student must:

  • Maintain a consistent level of academic performance (reviewed each semester).
  • Contribute to the curricular and co-curricular activities of the School (reviewed each semester).
  • Exhibit behaviour of the highest calibre.
  • Comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, uniform, and use of technology (reviewed each semester).
  • Maintain consistent attendance of 90% or higher.
  • Scholars are expected to demonstrate leadership and be role models of the School and within the wider community.

The student’s family must:

  • Pay the balance of any account within four weeks of each term’s commencement.
  • Provide in writing to the Board of Trustees an explanation about any delay in settling an account and a request to arrange alternative payment options.
  • Be positive role-models and actively involved within the School community. Parents of scholarship recipients must actively support the School’s Music Art Dance and Drama (MADD) Supporters, a sub-group of the School’s Parents & Friends Association.

Each scholarship is granted on the understanding that the Board of Trustees has the right to withdraw the scholarship if the aforementioned conditions are not met. Scholarships are contingent on the full disclosure of all information pertinent to a student’s education. Withholding relevant information may result in a scholarship being withdrawn. Potential withdrawal of a scholarship will be discussed with the family prior to the end of a school term. IGGS has excellent pastoral care, counselling, learning support resources and programs to help all students maintain high personal and performance standards. Withdrawal of a scholarship is not executed without due consideration of any mitigating circumstances should any of the above conditions provide cause for concern.

  • Students awarded a Performing Arts Scholarship will be required to participate in at least two school- based ensembles, choirs, dance troupes and/or activities that are relevant to the instrument/ specialised field they have been given the scholarship for and will participate in all related IGGS competitions and performances.
  • Students awarded a Performing Arts Scholarship on the merit of their dance ability will be required to take a leadership role within the co-curricular dance troupe from Years 9 to 12, and work with the curriculum dance teacher to facilitate dance workshops for the Middle School.
  • Music Scholarship students will also be required to participate in solo performance opportunities at IGGS and in the wider community as directed/ organised by the Director of Co-Curricular Arts.
  • Music Scholarship students will be required to undertake weekly private tuition in their specialist area (instrumental or vocal).
  • All scholarship recipients must commit to attending all excursions, competitions, performances and Musical productions as requested by the Director of Co-Curricular Arts.
  • All Scholarship students will be required to meet with the Head of The Arts and Director of Co- Curricular Arts annually to review their progress and to discuss how IGGS and the student can continue to help develop their creative abilities.

Special Ability Scholarships - Sport

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School’s Special Ability Scholarships – Sport are open to students entering Years 7 to 12 who demonstrate excellence in sport and a willingness to contribute to the School’s sporting activities through their participation, their representation of the School in competition and their encouragement of other athletes. Selection is based on the applicant’s portfolio and an interview if necessary.

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School is a proud member of the Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA). QGSSSA is an association of schools that was established in 1908. It aims to be the leading secondary schoolgirls sports association and a passionate promoter and advocate for young women in sports.   • Demonstrated academic achievement.
  • High level of enthusiasm in and commitment to the School’s Sports programs.

  • All applicants are required to prepare a portfolio.

For Special Ability Scholarships – Sport, the applicant’s portfolio should include the following:

  • The student’s name, current school and scholarship categories applying for.
  • The sport/s in which the applicant has achieved regional, state and/or national level success. Please include performance levels (e.g. times, distances and/or teams) and written verification from a certified (regional, state, and/or national) Sports Officer.
  • Information about participation in specialised coaching programs, including involvement in a club at a regional, state and/or national level.
  • At least one personal reference from a manager or coach of a club or representative team that
    can attest to the applicant’s achievements, commitment and sportsmanship.
  • A list of achievements, positions or roles they have held at school (such as Class Captain, Debating team, Excellence awards).
  • Demonstration of participation in a range of aspects of school life, such as the Arts, Sports, or Service activities.
  • A supporting statement (approximately 200 words) outlining their capacity to contribute to the School, addressing the following questions:
    • What does attending Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School mean to you? Some suggestions might be to tell us about your goals, ambitions, family experiences, friends and/or community and why these contribute to your desire to attend our School.
    • What is a hobby or activity you particularly like being involved in? Tell us about how you got involved, what contributions you make, and why you find it worthwhile or enjoyable. What do you enjoy about these things? How long have you been involved in it/them?
    • What are three things that you have done or experienced that you are most proud of?
  • A copy of the student's School reports for the last two years (external applicants only).
  • A copy of the student’s most recent NAPLAN results (external applicants only).
    • Please note, if the student has already submitted an enrolment application, or is a current student of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School including Ipswich Junior Grammar School, you are not required to submit last two years of School reports, or NAPLAN results.

  • Comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, uniform, and use of technology (reviewed each semester).
  • Maintain consistent attendance of 90% or higher.
  • Scholars are expected to demonstrate leadership and be role models of the School and within the wider community.

The student’s family must:

Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) Scholarship

Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School (IGGS) is an Educational Partner of the AIEF and offers a limited number of scholarships under the AIEF Scholarship Program. The AIEF Scholarship Program provides scholarships that enable Indigenous students in financial need to attend leading Australian schools and universities.

AIEF Scholarships facilitate choice by removing the financial barriers that may prevent Indigenous students who want to pursue their education with IGGS from doing so.

AIEF Scholarship holders are expected to participate actively in all aspects of an all-round education and support others at IGGS. Selection is based on the applicant meeting AIEF Scholarship eligibility criteria, together with criteria determined by the School.

To be eligible for an AIEF Scholarship a student needs to be/have:

  • An Indigenous Australian.
  • Eligible for and in receipt of ABSTUDY.
  • Accepted for enrolment as a boarder at an AIEF Partner School.
  • Not receiving any other scholarship.
  • Enthusiastic about attending school.
  • Likely to successfully complete Year 12.
  • In financial need.
  • Parents/family that have demonstrated support and encouragement for the enrolment and the scholarship.
  • Parents/family that have committed to making a financial contribution to the expenses.
  • ATO Notice of Assessment.
  • A completed AIEF Application form - contact scholarships@iggs.qld.edu.au to obtain a copy of the AIEF application form.

If successful, the AIEF Scholarship awarded to the applicant will be for the payment of the difference between ABSTUDY Funding, the Parent Contribution and any other external funding (ie Under 16 Boarding Supplement) of the School tuition and boarding fees each year, from the year of commencement, and extending to the end of Year 12. This scholarship does not include the enrolment application fee ($110), the enrolment confirmation fee ($500), incidental expenses (such as pharmacy) and individual tuition for co-curricular activities which may be taken in addition to the established curriculum subjects.

In order to maintain the AIEF Scholarship, the student and their family must:

  • Be eligible for and receive ABSTUDY.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and intend to complete school through to Year 12.
  • Comply with the School’s high expectations regarding attitudes, behaviour, uniform, and use of technology (reviewed each semester).
  • Not bring discredit to the School in any way (immediate cancellation).
  • Make the compulsory contribution to their child’s education expenses according to AIEF’s Scale of Parent Contribution.
  • Support the scholarship conditions and keep information confidential.
  • Each year, provide copies of ATO Notices of Assessment from the previous financial year.
  • Provide in writing to the School an explanation about any delay in settling an account and a request to arrange alternative payment options.

AIEF Non-Payment: If a student on an AIEF Scholarship is withdrawn before the end of each current year, the AIEF will not pay on the final School invoice for terms attended. All school terms attended by an AIEF Scholarship recipient in an incomplete year, will be paid for, in full, by their family less any external funding which would be applied to the account eg ABSTUDY.

Assessment of Applications

Applications must be submitted by Friday 30 January to be considered. We cannot accept late applications. Only eligible applications will move to the next stage. 

Applications will be assessed in accordance with the following stages.

Stage 1: Initial screening
Applicants should note that meeting the eligibility criteria means the application will progress to the next stage but does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded.

Stage 2: Detailed assessment of written applications against selection criteria 

Stage 3: Scholarship committee approve the award of scholarships 
The Committee’s decision is final in all matters. There is no appeal mechanism for decisions to approve or not approve a Scholarship.

New Enrolments
Shortlisted Applicants who are new enrolments to the School will need to complete an IGGS Enrolment Agreement if they have not already done so - Ipswich Girls' Grammar School Enrolment Agreement.

Notification of application outcomes
The Enrolments Department will advise applicants of the outcome of their application via email. 

Offer and acceptance processes
Offers of a Scholarship are subject to applicants accepting and signing a Scholarship Agreement and being able to satisfy the scholarship requirements for the duration of their scholarship.

Ongoing review and assessment (per semester)
To ensure that scholarship recipients continue to meet the eligibility criteria and maintain their academic and/or special ability performance, an ongoing review and assessment process will be conducted at the end of each semester.
