Ipswich Junior Grammar School’s Early Education Centre (EEC) is a co-educational community of inspiration and engagement that caters to the needs of students in Kindergarten and Pre-Prep.
The EEC adopts the Reggio Emilia approach to teaching young children, which places the natural development of children as well as the close relationships that they share with their environment at the center of its philosophy.
Qualified and committed staff deliver a play-based curriculum program that is relevant to the children’s interests and developmental needs, focusing on social and personal learning, health and physical development, language and communication, early mathematical understandings and active learning processes.
The children are integral to the running of the Centre and play a role in planning and executing the day’s activities and identifying topics of interest to explore. The result is an atmosphere of community and collaboration that fosters respect, responsibility and a love of learning.
Offering a supportive and enriching environment, the EEC also enables younger children to reap the benefits of the extensive facilities, resources and events available across the wider Ipswich Girls’ and Junior Grammar School campus.
Children have access to the School’s gymnasium, Assembly Hall, library, natural play space and rainforest walk, and Health Centre staffed by a qualified nurse.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are provided daily, with a tasty and nutritious menu freshly prepared on-site by a qualified chef.
Specialist teachers from Junior Grammar also provide Music, Library and Physical Education lessons, whilst a formal transition program in Term 4 for children moving on to Prep at Junior Grammar facilitates a smooth, happy and exciting start to School life.
The EEC offers two (2) options for enrolments. (Please note, uniforms are a compulsory part of enrolment)
Option 1: Full time, 5 days per week
Option 2: Part time, 5 days per fortnight. (a) Week 1: Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday, Week 2: Monday/Tuesday. (b) Week 1: Thursday/Friday, Week 2: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday.
Application Fee (non-refundable): $110.
Cost per day: $88.00 – Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea included. Child Care Benefit applies. Parents will be required to provide the School with registered Child Care Benefit details if applicable.
Hours of Operation
6.30am – 6.00pm, 50 weeks per year (except for designated public holidays)
6.30am – 8.30am: Before Hours Care
During this time, the Centre operates an activity-based program conducted by a Group Leader and Assistant. These activities may be a combination of both indoor and outdoor activities, depending on the season and weather conditions.
8.30am – 2.30pm: Learning Program
The program is play-based, focusing on the needs and interests of the children, whilst engaging and challenging them in stimulating learning activities. The program is designed and developed by qualified teaching staff with the aim of developing the knowledge and skills of children and a smooth transition into the Prep year.
2.30pm – 6.00pm: After Hours Care
The afternoon program begins with afternoon tea followed by outdoor activities. The children then move inside where a range of activities are offered. These activities vary throughout the year and may include construction, art, craft, games and movies.
During the school vacation periods, the Centre operates a Vacation Care program, with the exception of two weeks over the Christmas-New Year period when the School and the Centre will be closed.
The expansion of Ipswich Junior Grammar’s Early Education Centre (EEC) is set to go ahead for a January 2017 opening following Council’s approval of the School’s development application.
The expansion will see the EEC introduce two new classrooms and grow its maximum available places from 75 to 125.
The additional places will be a mix of both part-time and full-time places across Kindy and Pre-Prep, allowing the School to better meet the high demand in our community for quality educational programs for three-to-six-year olds with long daycare options.
Along with two new, full-resourced classrooms, the expansion also includes a significant extension to and investment in the Centre’s outdoor play space, the addition of a second eating area and at least 17 new dedicated carparks.
New staff will also be employed so that current staff-to-student ratios can be maintained and our Kindy and Pre-Prep students can continue to enjoy the benefit of continuity of care from their educators.
This is exciting news for both our existing EEC students – who will benefit from the increased resources, play space and facilities – as well as the many students who have expressed an interest in attending the EEC next year.
There are currently still a limited number of places available for families interested in enrolling their son or daughter for Kindy or Pre-Prep in 2017. Contact our Enrolments Registrar today to book your personal tour or enrol. Email email@example.com or phone 07 3454 4401.
